We’ve added a new half-day to our Cape Town programme: a cruise and lunch experience that pairs an hour on the water at the V&A Waterfront with a Cape Malay lunch at SPYCED. It brings together two of the things the city does best – time on the water and time at the table – and it starts and ends at the Waterfront, so it slots neatly into a wider itinerary.
An hour on Table Bay
The experience opens with a one-hour Bay Sail from the V&A Waterfront. Guests choose their vessel: a modern catamaran, steady and easy underfoot, or the Spirit of Victoria, a classic sailing schooner with the feel of an older era. Either way, the Waterfront falls away behind you and Table Bay opens up, with Table Mountain rising behind the city. It’s an hour to slow down, feel the wind shift, and see Cape Town from the angle it was first approached – the sea.
Cape Malay flavours at SPYCED
Back on land, the afternoon continues at SPYCED, where the focus turns to Cape Malay cooking and the spices at the heart of it. Lunch is two courses, rooted in the flavours that have shaped this part of the city for generations. Between courses there’s a hands-on spice-blending session – a chance to work with the aromatics yourself, learn where they come from, and understand how a Cape Malay kitchen builds its warmth and depth. Guests leave with their own spice blend to take home, a small piece of Cape Town to carry with them.
Cape Town cruise and lunch, in one easy half-day
Start to finish, the whole experience runs to around three hours from a central V&A Waterfront base. That makes it easy to build into a day without taking it over – the morning or the rest of the afternoon stays free. It suits FITs, couples, and families, and works well for special occasions or for travellers looking for something a little different from the usual Cape Town circuit.
