Wild Horizons is proud to announce that The Elephant Camp and The Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve which includes The Stanley and Livingstone and Ursula camp have achieved awards from Green Tourism, the largest and most established sustainable certification programme in the world. The Elephant Camp was awarded a Silver Award while The Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve gained a Bronze Award.
The Elephant Camp has worked hard to reduce the impact of the business on the environment, so it feels really good that our efforts have been recognised on our first assessment. A Green Tourism Award means that a business works responsibly, ethically and sustainably, contributes to their community, is reducing their impact on the environment and aims to be accessible and inclusive to all visitors and staff.
To achieve accreditation, The Elephant Camp was graded on-site by a qualified Assessor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and social involvement and communication.
Green Tourism particularly noted the ethical practise The Elephant Camp employ in regards to Elephant Back Safaris and the animals in our care saying: “These safaris and the elephants they work with are kept to a high standard of animal husbandry and really lead the way in working sustainably with elephants.”
