The rapids are officially classified as “Grade 5” by the British Canoe Union, with Grade 6 being commercially un-runnable. The activity requires reasonable fitness due to the steep hike in and out of the Batoka Gorge, combined with the physical demands of rafting. The journey offers breathtaking views of basalt cliffs, lush vegetation, and the mighty Zambezi River – home to the legendary Nyaminyami, the Tonga River God.
