Set on raised timber decks along the banks of the Zambezi River, our Standard Suites are the signature accommodation at Old Drift Lodge. These spacious luxury tented suites blend the romance of a classic African safari with every modern comfort — air conditioning, a fully stocked minibar and a private plunge pool overlooking the river where hippos wade and elephants come to drink.

Each suite is constructed from canvas, glass and responsibly sourced materials, creating a light-filled space that feels both open to the wilderness and intimately private. The design draws on the old-world heritage of the original Old Drift river crossing – the narrowest point on the Zambezi, used by early explorers and settlers since 1898 – with elegant furnishings, vintage-inspired details and earthy tones that connect you to the landscape.

Floor-to-ceiling glass panels slide open to merge the interior with the wooden deck outside, where your private plunge pool and sun loungers await. From your deck, the Zambezi stretches before you in every direction. It’s not unusual to watch a herd of elephants crossing the river at sunset from the comfort of your outdoor bath.

The Experience

Wake to the sound of birdsong and the gentle movement of the Zambezi. Step onto your deck and take a morning dip in your plunge pool before heading to the main lodge for a freshly prepared breakfast. After a morning game drive through Zambezi National Park; where our experienced guides lead you to close encounters with elephants, buffalo, giraffe, and an extraordinary variety of antelope and birdlife – return to your suite for a leisurely afternoon on the deck.

As the sun begins to set, join a river safari on the Zambezi, gliding past pods of hippos and sunbathing crocodiles as the sky turns gold. Back at the lodge, enjoy a multi-course dinner before retreating to your suite, where you can soak in the outdoor clawfoot bath under the stars with the distant thunder of Victoria Falls in the background.
